Online Manual for Bait tanks

The lightest, portable bait tanks on the market.  However, once they are filled with water, they weigh several hundreds of pounds.  It is your responsibility to make sure that they are secure in your boat or truck.  Failure to do that could result in personal injury and/or damage to your bait tank.  It is your responsiblitiy to secure your Bait tank from children due to the potential of drowning. X-Treme Bait Tanks will not be held responsible for damage or personal injuries as a result of negligence of the owner. 

When using the 110 pump, this must be plugged into a GFI outlet to avoid electrical shock.  Do not cut or splice electrical cord to this pump.

DO NOT hook your 12v pumps up to anything greater than 12v.  If you connect to 24v or 36v, you will cause damage resulting in pump malfunction.

We offer a 3 year warranty on all welds and any factory defects.  Warranty does not include pumps. This warranty is transferrable.  However, any modifications, misuse or mishandling of the tank will immediately void the warranty. 

Our bait tanks will circulate, filter and oxygenate your bait water.  You are responsible for managing water temperature and knowing what chemicals to use for your bait.  Feel free to contact one of our ProStaffers in your area for help if needed.

One unique benefit of an X-Treme Bait Tank is that you can decide how to maintain your bait.  This is not a "one size fits all" tank.  You purchase your X-Treme Bait Tank based on what baits you need to keep and how many.  

If you have a 12, 20 or 23 gallon Bait Tank, you have 1 pump and 1 directional flow.  All other tanks have 2 of each.  If you are keeping just a few pieces of bait that don’t need much activity in the water, you may only want to run one pump.  If you have your tank stuffed full run both pumps with both Venturi’s mixing oxygen into the bait tank area is very necessary. Adjust accordingly throughout the day.

Directional flows. These directional flows allow YOU to determine how the water flows back into your bait area. If you want alot of "current", align parallel to the wall.  If you still want the water turnover but not the current, aim the small directional flow down.

So feel comfortable getting in there and adjusting the flow of the filtered water coming back into the bait area based on what you feel your bait likes the best.

This depends on 3 things, the region of the bait, the kind of bait and the size of the bait.  We recommend 2-4 pieces per gallon if less than 6" and 1-2 pieces per gallon is larger than 6".  Some baits are a 1 bait per 5 gallon ratio.  Start low and work up to find the number that's comfortable for you and your bait.

Your tank has a "Fill Line" inside the bait area.  It's located about 3" from the top.  It is recommended that your water level is at this mark WHEN THE TANK IS RUNNING.  It is normal for the water level in the filter compartment to be lower than the water on the bait side.  

If you own a Signature Series Bait Tank, your tank will have 2 "Fill Lines".  The lower one is to run less water on those days when you don't need a full tank.  PLEASE NOTE, you need a special size stand pipe in order to do this.  This can be ordered from our website.

If your bait tank has a lower drain, it's either on the front of your tank or on the right or left side, but not in the back (filter compartment side).  Lower bulkhead drains will allow you to drain out all of your water except the last 1" or so.  At this point, you can turn your tank upside down to air dry.  In order to drain the filter compartment side, simply turn your pump on.

If your bait tank has an overflow drain, this is so you can do a partial water change.  When doing a partial water change, remove the drain plug and add new water to the tank.  This will help flush out surface grime and ammonia.  Some things to be aware of...

- Don't use tap water unless you have a way of treating it.

- If using lake water, be aware of the water temperature..

Your filter socks can last a long time if you take care of them.  Do not let them dry dirty. To clean, turn them inside out and rinse.  Let them air dry.  You can expect to get 6-12 months out of them.

It's recommended to clean your bait tank after each use.  Using Chemicals to clean your tank is not recommended.  Water from a garden hose to spray your tank down and a rag or magic eraser to break up the dirt works well.  

There are several different water treatment products out there.  What works best for you could depend on your water source.  Several bait tank owners will put crystal water softener salt for their fresh water baits.  Try 1 cup per 10 gallons (give or take).  1 cup per 20 gallon for gizzard shad.

If you use tap water, be sure to use a dechlorinator which will remove chlorine AND CHLORAMINE from the water.  

We cannot warranty any 12v pumps because we do not build them, therefore we have no control over how they are built.  However, there are things that you can do to maximize the life of your 12V pump.  Do not run continuously.  Give your pumps a chance to rest periodically.  If you have multiple pumps in your tank, alternate between the 2 pumps giving them time to rest.  If you decide to run your pumps for days at a time, be prepared to have them burn out and at that point they will need to be replaced.  You can replace your pump with any brand between 500GPH and 800GPH.

The directional flow is how the water is introduced back into the bait area.  

1) Infuser Cap.  This is a very gentle water turnover.  Water comes back in a "Y" or "V" shape.

2) Quick Flow.  This is like a small garden nozzle.  The Quick Flow is great for creating a current inside your bait tank giving bigger baits something to do.

3) Spray Bar.  The Spray Bar attachment is great for smaller more delicate baits like shrimp, crabs, minnows and threadfin.  If you have a tank with an Infuser Cap, this cap can be removed and a spray bar can be added.

If your tank has 2-12v pumps, you can run any one pump or both pumps giving you 3 different speeds inside your tank.  This allows you to create the perfect environment for whatever baits you happen to be keeping on any given day.

If you ever have to put new pumps in, make sure the Venturi is reconnected correctly.  There's a little arrow on the Venturi that must be facing away from the pump.  Make sure the air line is pushed all the way on and clear from debris.  ALSO, your Venturi is a 2 piece part.  Make sure that it is not loose.  You will know this because it will "click" when it's snapped back together.  Failure to do this will result in a malfunction of the Venturi which will result in your tank not operating properly.

If your temperature reaches 32 degrees and below. Please be sure to empty all water from the bait tank as it will cause damage to your tank and may result in a leak.
